Vase Sea Seed

€300.00

A capsule of traces from Ærø (DK), a small island in the Baltic Sea. First hand thrown in light stoneware and later sculpted and deformed with objects found on the shoreline. The structure holds imprints of shells, branches, bones, and scribbles by the artist, acting like a ceramic map. Glazed with seaweed ashes, shells, and clay foraged on Ærø. The vessel is a unique piece, made by artist Anna Leoni Klas during a stay on the island.

ABOUT THE CRAFTER

Anna Leoni Klas is a multidisciplinary artist based in Ammersee, Germany, whose practice spans several mediums, with ceramics at its centre. Her work explores sculptural forms, tableware, and vases, often beginning with sketches, materials, or an intuitive response to the landscape.

Her approach to ceramics is shaped by her studies in Textile Design and Creative Writing at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, as well as her earlier training in gilding. Across these disciplines, craft has remained an important part of her practice and her ongoing exploration of what role it plays in our lives today.

In her studio, Anna works closely with the materials she collects and uses, allowing their origins and qualities to inform her process. She is also currently exploring glaze making through a growing library of collected materials, using a ball mill to develop new glaze tests and possibilities within her practice.
