About

Crafters of Today is an independent publication based in Barcelona that researches, documents, and presents the work of women working across contemporary craft.

Our selection is informed by conversations with each maker. Through original interviews, we explore the materials, methods, influences, and ideas that shape their practice. These conversations provide the context through which each object is understood and presented.

The crafters we feature work across ceramics, textiles, wood, metal, and jewellery. Some continue techniques learned through family or place. Others develop new languages through traditional materials. What brings them together is not a particular aesthetic, but a way of working rooted in attention, knowledge, and care.

The objects we present are produced in small editions. Each one is accompanied by information about its materials, making process, provenance, and care, so that it can be understood as more than a finished piece.

We believe that curation begins long before an object enters a collection. It begins with understanding the person who made it, the decisions that shaped it, and the material from which it emerged. Our interviews are part of that process. They are a record of practices that continue to evolve, and an invitation to look more closely at the work itself.

Founded by Anca Adochitei, Crafters of Today draws on years of researching, interviewing, and working closely with independent makers across Europe. Her perspective was shaped by a childhood spent alongside her grandmother in rural Romania, where weaving, knitting, crochet, sewing, soap making, and the rhythms of everyday life formed an early appreciation for craftsmanship and the knowledge passed between generations of women. Those experiences continue to shape the values that guide every maker, object, and conversation featured by Crafters of Today.
