Ceramics
Anna Leoni Klas is a multidisciplinary artist based in Ammersee, Germany, whose practice spans several mediums, with ceramics at its centre. Her work explores sculptural forms, tableware, and vases, often beginning with sketches, materials, or an intuitive response to the landscape.
Her approach to ceramics is shaped by her studies in Textile Design and Creative Writing at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, as well as her earlier training in gilding. Across these disciplines, craft has remained an important part of her practice and her ongoing exploration of what role it plays in our lives today.
In her studio, Anna works closely with the materials she collects and uses, allowing their origins and qualities to inform her process. She is also currently exploring glaze making through a growing library of collected materials, using a ball mill to develop new glaze tests and possibilities within her practice.

A mystical vessel containing a library of collected materials, hours of research, and walks through Amsterdam and the countryside of the Ammersee region (DE). First hand thrown in grey stoneware and later sculpted with objects found along the way. Glazed with numerous materials, including mussel shells, eggshells, different types of glass, clay from the polders of Amsterdam, ashes, and sand.
The vessel is a unique piece, made by the artist Anna Leoni Klas. It is part of the research for her work “From Beneath the Roots of a Tree”, which has been exhibited across Europe.
A capsule of traces from Ærø (DK), a small island in the Baltic Sea. First hand thrown in light stoneware and later sculpted and deformed with objects found on the shoreline. The structure holds imprints of shells, branches, bones, and scribbles by the artist, acting like a ceramic map. Glazed with seaweed ashes, shells, and clay foraged on Ærø. The vessel is a unique piece, made by artist Anna Leoni Klas during a stay on the island.
