Prescilia Sodji

Prescilia Sodj is a visual artist and ceramicist based in Martinique, whose practice also extends to France. Her practice moves between image and object, bringing together hybrid, symbolic figures, bold colour and contrasting textures. Her work draws on the relationship between the strange and the familiar, creating forms that feel both recognisable and unexpected.

After two years studying illustration, Prescilia spent six years training in traditional bespoke shoemaking, completing her final year at the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg. Working alongside different disciplines within the performing arts broadened her approach to making and continues to inform her ceramics today, where the image-making of illustration meets the precision of a hand-learned craft.

Theatricality and staging remain central to her practice. Through colour, form and composition, Prescilia creates small worlds where everyday references take on new meanings. Her work explores how objects and figures can transform our perception of reality, opening up space for curiosity, imagination and enchantment.

This selection brings together nine porcelain bowls and cups by Prescilia, each pinched by hand and decorated inside and out. Engobes, glazes and fine oxide pencil drawing build up motifs in reds, pinks, greens and blues, so that every piece holds a small scene of its own. Each one is unique.
